Buffalo NY - The inaugural 2009 NPSL opening home game for Buffalo City FC kicked off on the 24th of May against Pocono Snow. Buffalo Previously won their opening away game with a 3-0 away game win against FC Revolution.
Buffalo once again started the game with numerous wasted chances during the first 15 minutes.
The home side started to pick up momentum and were rewarded in 22nd minute, when Buffalo's English forward Daniel Waymont crossed the ball in the box from a well worked one two in the midfield, which provided Casey Derkacz the opportunity to finish the move with a powerful header.
Shortly after Buffalo pushed forward again with another well worked goal which lead to Daniel Waymont being one on one with Pocono's goalkeeper Larry Pokrywa. Waymont calmly slotted the ball past the Pokrywa to make the score 2-0 in the 26th minute.
In the 28th minute Buffalo continued their attacking play which was rewarded with another goal from Jamaican International Rich Wilson. The assist came from Daniel Waymont.
The second half kicked off in a different fashion with Pocono having more of the possession. Buffalo's goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth had to make a few smart saves.
Buffalo's Head Coach tried to calm the game down when he brought Peter Marlette on for Marc Stencel in the 50th minute and Andy Teidt for Daniel Waymont on in 55th minute.
But a couple minutes later Pocono got on the score sheet with a well taken shot from Michael Kane in 58th minute.
Buffalo City quickly replied in 62nd minute from a set piece when Brazilian Igor Popovich crossed the ball in for Casey Derkacz to head in his second goal in the game and Buffalo's fourth.
Share again made several changes to close the game, but with Buffalo still pushing forward Justin Fredsell slotted the ball in the back of the net but only for the goal to be wrongly disallowed.
Buffalo continued to attack and were finally rewarded for the wrong decision with a 92nd minute goal from Right Back Glen Mihal. The goal was a perfect end to the game with Peter Marlette feeding the ball wide on the right side. Mihal overlapped and drove the ball into box where he released a thunderous shot past the goalkeeper.
Buffalo City FC's Head Coach Mike Share said "I'm pleased with the result. It's important to win especially after our good result against FC Revolution, but too be honest i was very disappointed with the performance. My players are better than what they showed and they can play at a much higher tempo". Share added "The positives of the games were that it showed the team are defensively and offensively strong in every department, three of the five goals came from our defenders".
Share went on to say "I have to think about how we can now improve and how we can play at our best every game. We were very lively for 25 minutes in the first half, but sadly we eased off in the second half. Monday all the players have the day off but on Tuesday it is back to work and I will make sure that for the next game we will correct what is needed"
Buffalo's win keeps them clear at the top of the table three points a head of Charm City and Erie Admirals. The team has now a +7 goal difference.
