Buffalo NY - The inaugural 2009 NPSL second home game for Buffalo City FC kicked off on the 30th of May against FC Revolution. Buffalo Previously won their opening away game with a 3-0 away game win against FC Revolution, but Buffalo City FC's Head Coach Mike Share anticipated a tough game against FC Revolution.
Buffalo once again started the game in an attacking fashion, wasting numerous chances in front of goal.
The home side started to pick up momentum but could not break down FC Revolution's well organized defence.
Shortly after Buffalo pushed forward again and were rewarded
in the 32nd minute with a well worked play from Marc Stencel.
Stencel played the ball inside the box to Daniel Waymont who calmly slotted the ball past the outstanding FC Revolution goalkeeper Rich Kessler.
Buffalo had several more chances in the first half but they could not make the possession count.
The second half kicked off in the same fashion, with Buffalo looking for the second goal and pushing strongly forward.
Things took a big turn when in the 60th minute FC Revolution's Head Coach Mike Moyer made several changes. FC Revolution were forcing Buffalo's goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth in action. Shuttleworth had an outstanding game. The changes also resulted in FC Revolution having more of the possession and closing Buffalo down quicker.
Buffalo's Head Coach tried to calm the game down when he brought on Dan Cavanaugh for Igor Popovich, but within 15 minutes Share was forced to replace the injured Cavanaugh.
In the 70th minute Share again made several changes to close the game, which in till the last few minutes seemed to work when FC Revolution should have scored inside the box with seconds remaining.
Buffalo City FC's Head Coach Mike Share said "I'm pleased with the result. It is always important to win especially after last weeks performance, but too be honest, we tested our luck at times. FC Revolution have to be disappointed with the result as they deserved much more then what they left with. I felt a draw would have been a fair result for both teams.
Share went on to say "My players showed today that they can grind results out. There were several great performances from my players. At times we played at a higher tempo then the Pocono game. We have to be able to play like this for the full 90 minutes".
Share added "The positives of the games were that it showed the team are defensively and offensively strong in every department, three of the five goals came from our defenders".
Buffalo's win keeps them clear at the top of the table three points a head of Charm City and 6 points clear from Erie Admirals. The team has now a +8 goal difference.
