Buffalo City FC Win 3-2 Against Pocono Snow In Game Of The Season

Buffalo NY - The inaugural 2009 NPSL fifth away game for Buffalo City FC kicked off on the 12th of July against the Pocono Snow. Buffalo needed to win the game to have any hope of a play off birth this season, but were sadly informed before the game that Charm City FC from Maryland had folded which would end Buffalo's hopes of a play off birth regardless of the score.

Buffalo started the game with an attacking formation but could not force any play in the third half of the field.

After 5 minutes Pocono started to push forward and were rewarded for their positive play in the 8th minute when Alex Weekes put the home side up 1-0 with a well taken strike.

Pocono again looked dangerous going forward as they continued to outplay Buffalo. In the 25th minute Shane McFarlane doubled the lead with a near post strike from about 12 yards out to the left of the goal. Both goals were mistakes from Buffalo's defensive play.

Coach Share said "Both goals were bad mistakes, I did not have many complaints about our defenders or the goalkeeper. It was just that the midfielders were not tracking back quick enough and made us vulnerable. The second goal should have easily been stopped or blocked. I know we have to be professional as a team but it is not easy to play a game when you find out 2 hours before kick off that your season is finished, this reflected on our first half performance".

In the second half, Share made several changes and a formation switch with Buffalo playing three at the back instead of four. The changes seemed to work with Buffalo picking up more momentum which would see many missed chances in front of the goal including two disallowed goals and two open goal misses.

Buffalo would keep on pressing forward and were rewarded in the 55th minute with a superb finish by sub Peter Marlette to make the score 2-1.

Buffalo continued to push forward to look for the second goal which would tie the game and the goal came shortly after in the 66th minute when Rich Wilson was brought down in the penalty area. From the resulting penalty Peter Marlette would get his second goal and would tie the game 2-2.

The game would have more missed chances for Buffalo in till in the 78th minute a well worked pass from Judah Manetta would find Buffalo's left back Casey Derkacz on the edge of the penalty box. Derkacz superbly curled the ball across the left side of the goal to score from 15 yards out and to make the game 3-2.

In the last 10 minute Buffalo had several more chances that would increase their lead but sadly the team could not find the back of the net. The game would end 3-2 in the Eiler-Martin Stadium.

Buffalo City FC's Head Coach Mike Share said "I'm pleased with the result and the second half performance. It's important to win even with the bad news we received before the game, too be honest I told the players that more than anything I wanted a good performance from the lads and in the first half it was as bad as we have played all season. We were poor everything I asked from the players was just overlooked. In the second half we played as well as we have since I have been at the club".

Share went on to say "I think we showed again what a good team we can be in all departments as it is never easy playing with three defenders. The tactical changes showed we are a good enough team to play with three at the back. For everyone that doubted that we can not play a 3-1-3-3, I do not have to say anything more".

When asked what was next for the team Share added "The season is finished for us we will play several friendly games which the club will announce but it is very disappointed that we miss out on our season being prolonged because of other peoples mistakes. All I know at this stage is that the club will take legal action as we feel cheated and everyone has worked very hard and we really feel hard done by".
