Buffalo City FC Impress In 3-0 Away Game Win Over Strong FC Revolution

Reading PA - The inaugural 2009 NPSL season for Buffalo City FC kicked off on the 16th of May with an away game against FC Revolution.

Buffalo started the game with numerous wasted chances during their early rally, the home side FC Revolution struggled with Buffalo's high tempo and within the opening 10 mins Buffalo City were denied a goal scoring chance when FC Revolution's goalkeeper Rich Kessler came out late and brought down Marc Stencel outside the penalty area.

From the resulting free kick Igor Popovich hit the woodwork, the reflection fell to Buffalo's winger Marc Stencel who cut the ball across the goal starting a goal line scramble.

The ball was eventually cleared by the well worked FC Revolutions defence.

Despite the combination of Revolutions strong defensive play and Buffalo's absence of turning their possession into goals, Buffalo stuck to their attacking principles throughout the first half and were rewarded in the 42nd minute when Jamaican International Rich Wilson slotted a well worked goal from Marc Stencel ball across goal.

The first half ended with heated exchanges between Buffalo's Justin Fredsell and Revolution's captain Eric Puls angrily pushing one another.

The second half started where Buffalo left off with Marc Stencel and Justin Fredsell both had shots blocked as they tried to shoot through a crowded Revolution defence.

Soon after Rich Wilson drove through on the left wing, to provide Daniel Waymonth with a pin point cross which Waymont calmly slotted home in the 58th minute.

After a large amount of possession, Wilson drove again on the left wing to set up Peter Marlette with a well made goal in the 78th minute.

FC Revolution kept pressing late on in the game and stretched Buffalo's defence which needed a lunge from Deleon to keep out FC Revolutions outstanding midfielder Max Ferdinand.

The home side also hit the woodwork late on from 25 yards, but FC Revolution could not force a goal past Buffalo's outstanding defence and goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth who clearly has a bright future a head of him.

In the end Buffalo closed the game's remaining minutes with a professional display from Dan Cavanaugh which secured a comfortable end to a great game.

Buffalo's Player/Head Coach Mike Share praised his team "The lads were superb, everything we worked on in training made this performance possible. It shows we have the potential to be a good team, all the players played well together from goalkeeper to our forwards. The players that came on all played very well, it really shows the depth of quality we have in our squad, as the season goes on we will only get better".

Share went on to say "We will enjoy the win and we have Monday off. Then it is back to the drawing board. We have to make sure this win does not count for nothing when we play next Sunday. We have to be consistent and i have every belief in my players and team that we are starting something special"

Buffalo's win takes them to the top of the table facing Pocono Snow next at home (Nichols) on Sunday May 24th at 3pm. Tickets are free, so come and cheer on your Buffalo City FC.
