Buffalo NY - The inaugural 2009 NPSL second and third away game for Buffalo City FC kicked off on the 5th of June against Charm City FC and against Pennsylvania Stoners on the 6th of June.
Buffalo City FC's Head Coach Mike Share anticipated a tough game against Charm City FC especially as the club also had a game the next day against current National Champions Pennsylvania Stoners.
Share said "It will be a crucial weekend for the club. Not only is it difficult playing two away games with the distance involved in America, but to play the 2nd place team on Friday and the next day play against the National Champions is a tough task to ask".
Share added "To play two games in two days is unheard of in Europe, I really feel this kills the game".
Charm City FC vs Buffalo City FC (5th of June).
Buffalo started the game strong moving the ball around in their attacking fashion and quickly got settled.
Within the first 10 minutes Buffalo should have been awarded a penalty when Marc Stencel went through on goal and was taking down by the last defender. The referee claimed to not have seen the Charm City defender throw his arm around Stencel and pull Buffalo player down 2 yards in front of the goal.
In 20th minute the game started to get heated with several bad tackles and the referee again could not control the game, several times Buffalo City FC's Head Coach Mike Share asked the referee to take control of the game and protect his players.
Buffalo continued to attack strongly and should have scored in the 35th minute when Marc Stencel cut inside the right side of the penalty box and played a perfect ball across the goal for Buffalo's forwards to come narrowly close to take the lead.
The second half started different with Charm City trying to force the ball wide. Buffalo defended well and also had several chances.
The major change in the game came in the 70th minute when Rich Wilson drove into the penalty box to be heavily taken down by Charm City FC's goalkeeper Svehla and defender Zakroski . The tackle was very late and mistimed and could have been avoided if the referee had taken control of the game.
Wilson's bad injury needed the winger hospital attention and 16 stitches to close the deep wound on his shin. The winger will be out for the next 2 to 3 weeks before he will be able to resume training.
The injury forced Buffalo to bring on Judah Manetta on the left flank. The resulting penalty was sent calmly past Charm City FC's goalkeeper by Buffalo's outstanding defender Casey Derkacz.
At the final whistle Buffalo City FC's Head Coach had several words with the referee.
Share said "I know it is not easy being a referee as you can never please both teams, but when you can not control the game and put players in danger. This is a joke. All I can say is the referee was a disgrace. We play in the National League and these are the referee's that are supposed to protect and take control of the game. There is no place for people in the game like this. We have a bigger picture for our players and all we ask is that players from both sides are protected".
Share added "I was pleased with the performance and the lads all worked hard for each other. It is not easy to play on when one of your fellow teammates gets injured in such a bad way. All in all i was satisfied with the hard work everyone put in".

Pennsylvania Stoners vs Buffalo City FC (6th of June).
After a long journey to Maryland and a hard earned win, Buffalo traveled to the National Champions Pennsylvania Stoners for their second away game in two days with one of their key players Rich Wilson being badly injured and unable to play against the Stoners.
Buffalo started the game with Daniel Waymont dropping playing on the left midfield and Andy Teidt playing forward, Buffalo looked tired and it took the team 15 minutes to settle.
Buffalo started to pick up the pace of the game in an attacking fashion, wasting numerous chances in front of goal but moving the ball well.
The home side also picked up momentum with several half chances but could not break down Buffalo's well organized defence.
Shortly after Buffalo pushed forward again and were rewarded with a goal in the 32nd minute with a well worked play between Andy Teidt and Daniel Waymont.
Waymont combined well with Teidt with a one -two. Teidt's well worked pass found Daniel Waymont perfectly placed to slot the ball past the Stoners goalkeeper Sam Bishop.
Buffalo ended the first half strong and no changes were made for the start of the second half.
Pennsylvania played less deep in the second half and the change in tactics showed on the field. For a good period in the second half the Stoners had a lot of pressure in Buffalo's half.
20 minutes in, Share made several changes which pushed Buffalo further up the field. The changes made gave Buffalo several chances to increase their lead and wrap the 3 points up.
One of the chances was created out of nothing when Peter Marlette dropped wide and cut inside the field to go past several Pennsylvania players and set himself perfectly up for an angled shot. Marlette tried to angle the ball to Sam Bishop's low right, but the ball was well pushed away by the goalkeeper.
A few minutes later Buffalo were finally rewarded for their efforts when Peter Marlette went past two players and drove into the penalty box were he was taken down by Pennsylvania's goalkeeper Sam Bishop.
This time Sam Bishop could not prevent the goal when Marlette stepped up for the penalty and calmly sent the goalkeeper the wrong way in the 76th minute.
The current National Champions Pennsylvania Stoners pushed forward to try and get back into the game, but Buffalo kept their cool to play out the remaining 6 minutes of the games and seal their second win in two days which takes the club well clear of the chasing pack..
Share said "At times we looked tired, We had a tough weekend but we got what we came for. The players gave their all and that is all I can ask from them. All the players had a good game and they played well as a team. We have to get our head down next week and make sure that we get a good result against Erie Admirals. It will not be an easy game as Erie Admirals also had two great results. I am looking forward to the game and I am sure the lads are too. It should be a good attacking game".
Buffalo's two wins keeps the club 5 points clear at the top of the table. The team has now a +11 goal difference and have only conceded 1 goal against Stand out goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworh.
Buffalo's next game is at home against second placed Erie Admirals on the 13th of June. The game is a 6pm kick off at Nichols.
