Buffalo City FC Drop Second In Conference After 2-0 Loss Against Erie

June 20th, 2009.

Buffalo NY - The inaugural 2009 NPSL fourth away game for Buffalo City FC kicked off on the 20th of June against Erie Admirals. Buffalo City FC were looking to bounce back from last weeks lose against Erie and stay 5 points clear from the second placed team.

Share called up Nick Fetterman to replace the departed Bobby Shuttleworth who recently signed for MLS side New England Revolution. Other changes to Buffalo's line up were Peter Marlette playing forward and Marc Stencel was back from injury.

The game started well for the away team on what was a bad surface, the good play was soon short lived when in the 15th minute Nick Fetterman tried to hold on to a low shot which bounced of the goalkeepers chest to land into the patch of Erie's forward Jeremey Deighton, who calmly deflected his shot in the goal to take the lead.

Shotly after the home side grew in confidence and started to pick up the tempo but wasted several chances infront of goal with Fetterman making several good saves.

Buffalo tried to play their flowing game and started to put real pressure on the home with some good attacking play. Buffalo had several more chances in the first half with the last 10 minutes being played in Erie's half, but as recently Buffalo again could not make the possession count.

The second half kicked off in the same fashion, with Buffalo looking to push strongly forward but not able to break Erie down.

In the 50th minute Buffalo had the best chance to level the game when Peter Marlette was unmarked and had a clear cut header in the penalty box from  a Daniel Waymont cross.

As the missed chances grew, Buffalo's Head Coach Mike Share tried to change the game and pushed Deleon from center back to midfielder and played the last 18 mintues with three defenders.

The change seemed to work with Buffalo having several more chances in till 86th minute when Afrim Latifi was one on one with Fetterman and slotted home Erie's second goal of the game to take all 3 points.

Buffalo now drop to second in the table one point behind Erie. Buffalo's loss takes their record to: 5-0-2

Buffalo City FC's Head Coach Mike Share said "I'm dissapointed with the result and I really thought the players would bounce back from last weeks bad game. We did not look narrow but again we missed too many chances. If the players want to play at a higher level in Europe then they have to show that they have the character to bounce back next Saturday against Charm City. We will now see who the boys and men are in our team. Erie wanted to win more than our team, they had more desire and deserved to win the game. We played better football in both games but not every team wants to play the ball on the floor like us. As a player myself I know that football is not always fair".

Share went on to say "I have every faith in all my players, but they can not just turn up for a game expecting us to roll every team over. Hopefully the players will learn from their mistakes and we will have a strong finish to the season which will still give us the chance to win the conference".

Buffalo's next game is Saturday 27th of June against Charm City FC and Sunday 28th of June against National Champions PA Stoners.
