Buffalo City FC Win 4-1 Against National Champions Pennsylvania Stoners

June 28th, 2009.

Buffalo NY - The inaugural 2009 NPSL fourth home game for Buffalo City FC kicked off on the 28th of June against the National Champions Pennsylvania Stoners. Buffalo needed to win the game to have any hope of a play off birth this season.

Buffalo started the game with an attacking formation and were rewarded for their positive play in the 8th minute when Buffalo's left back Jeffrey Taylor played Andy Tiedt in who finished the ball coolly past the Stoners goalkeeper to put the home team a head.

The home side started to pick up more momentum and were rewarded in the 14th minute with a superb finish by Daniel Waymont. Buffalo continued to push forward to look for the third goal and in 25th minute Waymont got his second of the game and Buffalo's third to make it a 3-0 lead.
Buffalo would have several more chances but the home team would not be able to add to the three goals scored before half time.

The second half kicked off in the same fashion with Buffalo looking for a fourth goal. Andy Tiedt had a great chance to add to the score when he was one on one with the Stoners goalkeeper, but Sam Bishop made a great save to deny Tiedt his second goal of the game and Buffalo's fourth.

In the 70th minute Buffalo's Jeffrey Taylor was sent off for an off the ball offense. Buffalo's Head Coach Mike Share quickly changed the formation playing three in the defence and five across the midfield with Dominic Oppong being the holding midfielder.

Share made several more changes one of them being Marsalis Beckford. The change seemed to work instantly, when Beckford scored within two minutes of being on the field.

In the last minute a well worked goal was scored by the Stoners when Tom Reilly scored in the 92nd minute to make the final score 4-1 for Buffalo.

Buffalo City FC's Head Coach Mike Share said "I'm pleased with the result. It's important to win especially after our recent results, but too be honest I told the players that more than anything I wanted a good performance from the lads. I think we showed again what a good team we can be in front of the goal. Every player played well and more importantly we looked like a team again. I do not want to take anything away from my boys but I really feel for the Stoners as it is very difficult to play two games in as many days. It did not do the Stoners any justice as they are a very good team".

Share added "Several players showed again that they can play at a higher level and that really pleases me, I told all the players to treat the game as a 0-0 game even when we were up 3-0. They did everything I I asked them and they kept going forward looking to score more goals. I am very pleased with all the players and I am sure we will have a great end to the season, if we keep playing like this who knows what will happen".

Buffalo's win keeps them in second place one point behind Erie. The team now has a +11 goal difference.

Buffalo's next game is at home (Nichols) on Sunday July 12th at 12pm. Tickets are free, so come and cheer on your Buffalo City FC.
