Stephen Brandt's Managers Chat With Mike Share (Interview No 2)

May 6th, 2009

(Buffalo, NY)--- Mike Share and Stephen Brandt sat down for their weekly managers chat. As always you can send questions you want Mike to answer at sbrandt@buffalocityfc.com. Stay tuned for all the exciting happenings going on at Buffalo City FC.

What can you tell us about our first opponent?

On May 16th is our first game and it is away against FC Revolution from PA. I am sure it will be a very difficult game as most games are and especially the first few games are difficult. I am looking forward to it and each day the team is looking fitter and stronger. I can not really comment on FC Revolution what system they use or any of their players but I am sure it
will be tough game that we will be looking to win.

What's going on around the club right now?

A lot to be honest, everyone is very busy from the 1st team training 5 times a week and preparing for May 10th friendly game and our up and coming away game against FC Revolution. Also we are very busy with preparation of our 2009 Summer Pro Soccer Clinics. I am really looking forward to them as hopefully it will give us a chance to find the next star from America. At the same time it will also raise money for Carly's Club which is an amazing charity that supports kids and cancer research.

As an outsider, what do you think of the US National Team? (players, coach, etc)

I think America has a good national team. Most of the better players all have had some experience in Europe. Obviously it does not help to not play against very competitive teams in the World Cup qualification group, but every time team USA qualifies they play and reach the elimination stages of the World Cup which I think they really should with the players that they have. Hopefully our club can produce and develop more players for the national team that can play and develop longer in America before going overseas. As said before currently most players that play for the national team have to go abroad to be able to progress more as there is no system in place. Hopefully we can change this now. I think for the future if our goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth works on the correct things that he will have great chance to play for his country. He has all the potential to make it as a top goalkeeper.

I know it's not in your frame of mind, but if you could point out a couple players who the fans should get to know, who would they be?

Too be honest we have several players that I am sure we caught the eye from our supports but I always say to our fans make sure you do not just look at the players that do the spotlight jobs as I call it. Spotlight jobs is the attacking football (soccer) if you look closely you will see some very good displays from our defensive players who do all the dirty jobs. All in all I think we are a very attacking team with a good work rate. I am sure many players will catch the eyes from our supporters.

On our website it says Professional clubs we work with, what does that mean?

Buffalo City FC prides itself on being well connected throughout the international soccer community. The club has over 30 working relationships with some of the biggest clubs in England, France and Italy among others. Our club provides players the opportunity to play professional soccer in Europe through out relationships. We are committed to supporting players through the entire process, and will instruct players on what are the best opportunities for them. We also have Buffalo City FC staff in Europe to look after players as they take the next step in their soccer careers.

When/where will fans be able to pick up Buffalo City FC Merchandise?

Buffalo City FC jerseys and merchandise will be sold at every home game and it will soon be available on our website as well.

Where are you looking to draw fans from? (Western New York, Canada?)

Every fan from New York, America, Europe and the rest of the world is much appreciated, we hope to draw big crowds at our games and as you can see we are committed to the Buffalo/WNY community as it shows in our name. Alone on our website we are getting over the 35,000 hits a month.

How are you do you like living in Buffalo?

I like Buffalo, I have got used to the America way very quickly and as a person I easily adapt to different situations, throughout my career I have had to get used this so I guess it has prepared me well to settle in quick in Buffalo.

Who are some of the players you liked watching when you were younger?

When i was younger I did not really get the chance to watch my all time favorite player which is Maradona as it was before my time really, but Maradona for me is and was the best player in the world. His movement on and off the ball was unseen at that time. Even though he knocked England our with a touching the ball with his hand, the second goal in my opinion is the best goal any player has ever scored. Especially when you think at what level he scored.

I am also a big fan of Steven Gerrard and players like Wayne Rooney who I have played against, too be fair I did not think he was something special in that game but I think Rooney was not trying that hard as he is a world class player.
