Buffalo City FC Too Strong In 2-1 Win

May 10th, 2009

(Buffalo, NY)--- In preparation for Buffalo City FC's 2009 NPSL inaugural season, Buffalo City FC kicked off it’s first season with a “friendly” against St. Catherine’s Roma, with a 2-1 win at Nichols. While the match could be considered a friendly (scrimmage), the two teams were anything but friendly. Words were exchanged between players and management of both teams. The tackles may not have been all that hard, but tempers were flaring.

Dan Waymont bagged both goals for Buffalo City, on a very cold, windy day. With the match being a scrimmage manager Mike Share shuffled players in and out, while raising the ire of the Roma goalkeeper.

Mike Share said "I am very pleased with the effort the players put in. We had about 90% of possession and really outplayed St. Catherines, If we can improve on taking our chances, then I am sure we will have a very successful season. All in all in was very happy with all the lads"

Buffalo's goal scorer Dan Waymont said after the match: "Personally, its always nice to get goals as it gives me confidence going into the next match, but more importantly the team got off to the winning start we want as we look to continue to build from this and take into our next match."

Many of the players were playing for the first time since their college season’s ended, while some have been practicing since they arrived in Buffalo. Mike, not one to have easy practices, ran the players around the pitch for their customary eight laps. While that might seem a little rough, the players outran Roma throughout the match.

Dan went on to say: "Today's game was a good way to start off the season after an intense first week of training.  We have worked hard and it was good to get out on the pitch and put to work what we did in training."

Buffalo City FC next plays on Saturday May 16th at 6:00pm in Reading, PA against FC Reading Revolution.

Buffalo City Football Club is Buffalo's premier soccer organization since 2008.
